Hello! I'm Nettie, and I bring two decades of hands-on experience working with children to my role as a psychotherapist. Specialising in supporting children and young people aged 9 to 18, I help those facing emotional and behavioral challenges find their path to healing.
My journey began in the education sector, where I served as a Special Needs Assistant for fourteen years. This experience laid the foundation for my transition into psychotherapy, where I use various therapeutic methods, including EMDR, to support children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. I also support children and adolescents with neurodiversity, in particular ADHD and ASD. Additionally, I am certified as a Grief Educator under the guidance of renowned grief expert David Kessler.
I believe that healing happens within the family unit and that 'parents are the agents of change' [Dr. Garry Landreth]. Through NorthStar Parent Support Clinic, I offer guidance to parents on managing emotional overwhelm, anxiety, behavior, and communication. I provide strategies that parents can use at home to support their children effectively.
My background in Social Care and my advanced training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Child & Adolescent Counselling & Psychotherapy allow me to offer comprehensive support to my clients. I have specialised training in EMDR for young people, having completed extensive training with experts like Gus Murray and Ana Gomez. I am also a Level 2 Mindfulness Teacher, qualified to teach mindfulness to children and adolescents.
Since establishing my private practice in 2014 and founding NorthStar Counselling & Therapy Centre in 2020, I have been dedicated to leading a team of skilled counsellors, psychotherapists, and play therapists. Together, we provide mental health support to children, adolescents, and adults.
Beyond individual therapy, I also give informative talks for parents in collaboration with schools, Family Resource Centres, and other agencies. My goal is to create a supportive and understanding environment where children and families can thrive emotionally.
