Play Therapist
Children ages 4 - 12 years
Hi, I’m Sophie, a Non-Directive Play Therapist with NorthStar Counselling & Therapy Centre. I am deeply committed to creating a nurturing and therapeutic environment where children can feel safe, supported, and free to express themselves. As a fully accredited member of the Irish Play Therapy Association (IPTA), I am dedicated to maintaining a high standard of care and continually expanding my skills through professional development and supervision. My approach at NorthStar is entirely child-centred allowing children the space to process their emotions naturally through play. My role here at NorthStar focuses on helping children from ages 4 to 12 grow emotionally, develop coping skills, and harness their strengths to reach their full potential.
My journey began with a strong foundation in Early Years Education and Care, where I gained my Honours Degree and spent seven rewarding years working as an Early Years Educator, supporting the holistic development of children from infancy to early adolescence. During this time, I noticed a significant connection between play and children’s mental health. Many children I encountered struggled to manage their emotions, needing more individualised, compassionate support. This realisation inspired me to pursue advanced training in Therapeutic Play Skills with the Children’s Therapy Centre, where I witnessed first-hand the healing power of play. With this newfound passion, I continued my studies in Play Therapy, completing my Postgraduate training with Munster Technological University in Cork. I am currently working toward my Master’s in Play Therapy to deepen my knowledge and enhance my practice.
Through our sessions, my aim is to empower each child, providing them with positive coping mechanisms, a sense of healing, and the opportunity to explore their emotions freely. Here at NorthStar, I am honoured to be part of each child’s journey towards resilience, well-being, and personal growth.
