Hi, I’m Sophie, a Play Therapist here at NorthStar Counselling & Therapy Centre
As a parent, it’s not always easy to know how to help when your child is struggling with big feelings or challenging experiences. That’s where play therapy can make a real difference — giving children a safe, supportive space to express themselves in the way they naturally know best: through play.
I specialise in Non-Directive, child-centred Play Therapy. It’s a gentle, respectful approach that allows children to work through their feelings, build confidence, and develop healthy coping skills at their own pace — all within a nurturing, secure environment.
I work with children aged 4 to 12, supporting them as they explore emotions, navigate challenges, and discover their own inner strengths. I am a fully accredited member of the Irish Play Therapy Association (IPTA), and I am committed to providing the highest standard of care, continually building my skills through professional development and supervision.
Before becoming a Play Therapist, I spent seven years working as an Early Years Educator after earning my Honours Degree in Early Years Education and Care. During that time, I saw just how powerful play can be for a child’s emotional well-being. It inspired me to deepen my knowledge, leading me to advanced training in Therapeutic Play Skills and completing my Postgraduate and Master’s studies in Play Therapy.
At NorthStar, I feel truly privileged to walk alongside children on their journey toward resilience, confidence, and emotional growth. I understand how important it is for parents to feel comfortable and reassured, and I welcome any questions you may have about the process. Together, we can help your child feel heard, supported, and empowered to thrive.
